The first step is to thoroughly clean the deck. Our coastal climate can create mold, moss, mildew, and algae that cause decks to become slick. Pressure washing will remove the visible issues, but it should be followed up with a cleaning solution to prevent rapid return. Additionally, we suggest that decks are cleaned annually for both wood and composite. If you have a wood deck, it is generally suggested that it be sanded and stained annually. These affordable services will also save you big bucks down the road.
The simple answer is, you can’t. A lot of products will advertise this, but no decking is impervious to stains, scratches, or getting dirty. There are “low-maintenance” options, but consider this when deciding on what best fits your ideal.
Wood is still the most popular decking. It will be more affordable and provide a natural look, but it won’t last forever. It will require ongoing maintenance and eventually replacement. Composite is more expensive, but it is more durable, will last significantly longer, and will help you avoid the costs of ongoing maintenance.
